This is a rare set of late 19th-century c. 1890 French Japonaiserie antique sterling silver dessert/ice cream service, comprises 12 spoons and a slice. Decorated in beautiful hand engraved birds and foliage. Each spoon and the slice have individual design!The image shows 6 variations but all 13 are different. Interests in Japanese arts grew in France after diplomatic relations were reinstated at the start of the Meiji era. The set dates back to the same period. All pieces in high grade sterling silver with original gilding. They are all fully hallmarked with French silver standard marks, Minerva 1.950 high grade silver, maker's mark - V. Boivin (5 Rue de Montmorency, Paris).
Free from personal inscriptions or monograms. Original red silk and velvet case.
